Celebrate the New Year with us with a new video about our favorite non-profit organization, Equine Voices!
To find out more about this extraordinary organization go to www.equinevoices.org.
We are having a great time using our new wonderful camera that shoots in high speed. The horses look absolutely fabulous in “slow motion”–you can really see their graceful movements. And remember, all of these gorgeous gals are available for adoption!
We send a special thank you to Mary Ann Kennedy for her permission for us to use her music. For more information and previews of this giving and talented musician’s music, go to www.maryannkennedy.com.
Every year the staff and volunteers turn the zoo into a wonderland of lights. It is amazing what a great job they do. This is our favorite place to go in Tucson to view lights to get into the holiday spirit. Thank you, Reid Park Zoo, for decorating the zoo for the enjoyment of the community. Oh, all the animals were in bed.
Winter Butterfly
A very creative graphic artist by the name of Susan Zaku had the fun idea of overlaying our Ceraunus Blue butterfly over a frozen leaf. We think it adds a new dimension to the butterfly.
We wish you very joyful holidays and a wonderful, prosperous New Year! See you next year! To send a comment, please use the contact page.
Since Thanksgiving is coming up, I thought it was appropriate to include a gratuitous image of a wild turkey. This was taken at one of our favorite places to hang out at, Arizona Sonora Desert Museum. The feathers were absolutely beautiful, especially when the light was just right. It was surprising to me how blunt the feather edges were, they almost looked like roof shingles.
Just for fun–delight in watching some fun and fantastic animals as they enjoy their Thanksgiving meals. Or as they try to. This 1 1/2 minute video includes a Cactus Wren trying to break up a piece of kibble to a Great Horned Owl downing his favorite food, a mouse. The ocelot is enjoying a frozen tuna-cicle–it is still warm here in Tucson Arizona for Thanksgiving. We even have the turkey on the video and our favorite, the Costa’s hummingbird. For more hummers, check out our hummingbird video on the Video page in the Gift Shop!
Since it is Halloween, we thought it would be fitting to focus on some of the awesome owl images and videos that we have. This Western Screech Owl was trying to get some sleep as we were photographing him. The flash made his eyes turn red–great Halloween effects! Plus, we have the added effect of a guest (look in upper left hand corner of the picture). Unfortunately, it isn’t a spider, but the insect does add spookiness.

This short video has awesome slow motion of the Barn Owl and Great Horned Owl. Our DVD, Birds of Prey, has more footage and information about these two fantastic owls, in addition to other raptors and birds of prey. It also has more slow motion of the Chihuahuan Raven, Ferruginous Hawk and Harris’ Hawk. You can see a short trailer for this DVD on the Video page at the Gift Shop.
Hope you enjoy the owls! We’re rounding up images and video to celebrate Thanksgiving. Come back and visit us the second week in November! We also look forward to your comments. You can use the contact page to send a comment.
